Hon Annette King to visit Waitakere

Hon Annette King is doing a whirlwind tour of Waitakere on Wednesday 8 October to check out many of the community initiatives relating to safety and security in Waitakere City.

 First up is a meeting with the Police, Safe Waitakere, the Maori and Pacific Wardens and Neighbourhood Support representatives.

 This will be followed by a tour of the brand new Youth Facility - Global Café - and a 'walkabout' in Glenmall in Glen Eden.

It was great to celebrate the International Day of the Older Person with delivery of some real benefits for superannuitants.

Subsidies for hearing aids have more than doubled (to $500) and personal tax cuts will increase superannuation payments for married couples by $45.88 per fortnight and singles by $23.84.

National's ECE policy a giant step backwards

Lynne Pillay, MP for Waitakere, said that she was appalled by the announcement of National’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) Policy.

National's plan included the removal of the word 'free' from the 20 hours free Early Childhood Education Policy instituted by the Labour government last year, and the rejection of the agreed goal of 100 per cent trained and registered teachers for children under two years of age.

Family Courts Matters Bill — Second Reading

Hon ANNETTE KING (Minister of Justice) on behalf of the Minister for Courts: I move, That the Family Courts Matters Bill be now read a second time. The Family Courts Matters Bill is an omnibus bill that extends the openness of the Family Courts, introduces non-judicial mediation, makes a number of other useful improvements, and tidies up legislation designed to improve processes and procedures in the Family Courts.
